About the Artist

George C. Mayfield, artist/owner of G.C. Mayfield Studio in Kansas City, Kansas has been painting for over 20 years. He has focused primarily on portraits, abstracts, 3D art and nearly photo-perfect renditions of fruits and flowers.

His paintings are primarily displayed at G.C. Mayfield Gallery, but he also displays his work in other galleries nationally, as well as internationally. He is available for one-man art shows, lectures and public speaking.




Exhibits and Honors

  • First African-American to permanently display a portrait in the Kansas State Capitol, an original portrait of Edward R. McCabe, the first black elected official in Kansas.

  • Two original portraits hanging permanently at the Kansas Historical Research Center Museum. One is of the Buffalo Soldiers. The other is of the first black kindergarten west of the Mississippi.

  • Commissioned an original portrait of Governor John Carlin and was presented to him during his term in Kansas.

  • Commissioned by the Black Historical Society of Kansas City, Missouri to create an original portrait of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to be sent to the King Center for Non-Violent Social Change in Atlanta, Georgia.
